Church End Police Report for July 2010

The Current Ward nominated priorities are:

Burglary

Theft from Motor Vehicles

Shoplifting

Queen Mary's Avenue Anit-Social Behaviour

Burglary:  Over the last three months we have seen a dramatic drop in residential burglaries across the borough.  Over the last 12 months in Church End there have been 68 reported incidents, there were 95 reported during the previous 12 months a drop of 28%  This improvement is even better when compared over a 6 month period it is a drop of 41.2%.  However we cannot afford to be complacent it's important that residents continue to double lock front doors and not leave windows open on the groung floor at night.  There is no obvious pattern to the burglaries that we do suffer, they are sporadic and no area is emerging as a hot spot.

Motor Vehicle Crime:  Over the last 12 months thefts from motor vehicles have dropped by 21% from 162 offences to 128 offences.  Quarterly our improvement is 30.4% but I don't expect to sustain this as it has been the most prominent crime over the last two months.  We have seen a rise in contractor's vehciles being broken intofor tools.  Number Plate theft continues to be a problem.  We have finished our Sunday's and we have leafleted every residence on the Ward and offered screw replacements.  Our next initiative will be to 'piggy back' other events and offer the service at Sunday Church services, fetes, etc.

Theft of vehicles hav erisen dramatically and the type of vehicle stolen has changed.  As well as the more valuable cars we are also seeing cars of moderate or low value stolent from the street.  This has been attribted to thieves with tow trucks simply lifting the vehcile off the street, loading them onto tow trucks and scarpping them off the borough.  We have seen 52 vehciles stolen, compared with the previous 12 months when 30 weren taken.  This is a rise of 73%.

Retail Theft: We have seen a considerable drop in thefts from shops since the installation of the CCTV cameras in and around George Lane.  The figures for 12 months show a fall from 64 crimes to 62 a reduction of 3% the quarterly figures show a reduction of 60% from 25 crimes to 10.  (This is a more realistic view on the camera's success).  We continue to post an Officer to George Lane on every shift that we work.

Other News:  We have undertaken joint patrols with the parking wardens and building on the success we have now written 3 days into our 3 weekly rota to continue enforcing parking conditions in Churchfields and the High Road between Bunces Land and Churchfields.

We continue to monitor the licensed premises in the Ward and have kept our weekend shifts to end at 2am rather than 12 midnight during BST.

All stats in this report are correct to 30th June 2010
